Having three boys, there are a lot of toys in our home that have been passed/handed down from one to the next (and to the next). As a result, when people have asked us for gift ideas for the youngest of the brothers, I’ve struggled to come up with new ideas. We’ve got action figures, vehicles, sports equipment, books, and puzzles galore - and of course, some are more well loved than others! It’s often a challenge to find things that are new so that he can have some non-recycled items sometimes. I must admit, we’re lucky to know some thoughtful and creative people who give great gifts and today I’m going to share about a product we didn’t know we’d love so much!
The Melissa & Doug Race Around The World Tracks Cardboard Jigsaw Floor Puzzle and Wind-Up Vehicles is a fun product that also offers lots of skill building! Perhaps my favorite thing about floor puzzles is that they don’t require electricity or a screen! Some additional benefits include gross motor skill development, spatial awareness, problem-solving skills, hand-eye coordination, patience, persistence, and a sense of accomplishment! Floor puzzles can be done independently but they are also great for promoting collaboration and communication among those working on them. For this reason, they’re also a great family and/or group activity!
In addition to this particular product being a floor puzzle, it’s also a racetrack! It includes two wind-up vehicles that can be raced around the track once the puzzle is finished. So much fun! Our family (with kids ages 3, 6, and 9) found this puzzle to be entertaining and just challenging enough to involve some strategy and teamwork. It’s got 4.5 stars on Amazon so we must not be the only ones who think so! ;)
Attention puzzle lovers!!
Looking for puzzles more suited for older children (and maybe yourself!)? Check out the brand UNIDRAGON! Their puzzles are made of real wood (not cardboard!) giving the pieces a true quality weight and feel. The pieces are laser cut, allowing not only for seamless fits but also enabling truly unique and interesting style pieces. Each puzzle also comes with ‘Easter egg’ pieces - meaning a handful of pieces are actually shaped as unique and recognizable icons, animals, and figures. This brand offers an extensive variety of puzzle collections as well as four sizes: small, medium, king, and royal. Each size offers its respective range of puzzle piece counts and difficulty. These puzzles were highly recommended to me and I think others will enjoy them too!
